Many of us know what automation can bring but Amazon Go has brought in something that seems ahead of its time. The no checkout, no queue stores. So let’s start with what is it.
What is Amazon Go?
Amazon Go is a new kind of automated store that does not require you to checkout. It is currently the world’s most advanced shopping technology that doesn’t require the customer to stand in line. All the customer needs is the Amazon Go app to utilize the Just Walk Out Shopping experience where you just go to the store, grab what you want and you leave. That’s it.
How Does Amazon Go Work?
The e-commerce giant made this checkout-free shopping experience possible by incorporating technology similar to the one used in self-driving cars, which is computer vision, sensor fusion, and deep learning. The technology automatically detects when a product is taken or placed back on a shelf through sensors and keeps track in a virtual cart. When you’re done shopping, you can just leave the store and in a short, while the customer will be charged from his Amazon account and a receipt will be sent.
Where is the Amazon Go store located?
Currently, there is just one store that is located at 2131 7th Ave, Seattle, WA, on the corner of 7th Avenue and Blanchard Street. At the moment, the store is in its Beta program and is only open for Amazon employees. It will be open to the public in early 2017.
What products are available at the Amazon Go store?
Till now, we know that there are ready-to-eat breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack options that are made fresh each day by the on-site chef and favorite local kitchens and bakeries. It will also have a selection of grocery essentials that range from bread and milk to cheeses and locally made chocolates. The customers will also be able to find well-known brands along with special additional ones as well.
So all you need is an Amazon account, a supported smartphone, and download the free Amazon Go app.
