1. Plitvice Falls, Croatia
Plitvice Lakes national park is located in Croatia. The collection of waterfalls may not be very high, but are so beautiful to look at, especially because the water changes color from turquoise to light blue to crystal clear as its nears its tipping point.
Height: There are many small waterfalls, out of which the highest one falls from a height of 68 to 78 metres.
2. Yosemite Falls, USA
Located in California, these falls are the highest in North America. The view is breathtakingly beautiful and the two mountain heads that seem to have been combined because of the water gushing out from between them, makes it truly a sight to behold.
Height: The mighty falls have a height of 739 metres.
3. Niagara Falls, Canada/USA
It might not be the heighest, but the width is the reason why people flock in huge numbers everyday to pay it a visit it. Another side of the falls’ beauty is witnessed during the fall season when the water freezes, making it seem like time has stopped and the waterfall is frozen in time. The falls are divided into two sections. The Horseshoe falls situated on the Canadian side and the American falls situated on the American side.
Height: The American falls have a height of 21-30 metres, while the Horseshoe falls have a height of 53 metres.
4. Angel Falls, Venezuela
They are the highest in the world and have been named after Jimmie Angel – an American aviator – who discovered them. The falls are protected as a UNESCO World Heritage site, but are open to visitors. Had we not known the exact reason behind its name, we would have proclaimed that an angel fell from heaven and the resulting impact caused these waterfalls to form.
Height: An impressive height of 979 metres. Woah!
5. Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe
These falls are located in the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe. The slight yellow shade of the falls is attributed to the surrounding sandstone mountains.
Height: The water falls from a height of 108 metres.
6. Iguazu Falls, Argentina
They are located on the border of Argentina and Brazil. What makes them so spectacular is the presence of many cascades. The overall effect is amazing.
Height: 87 metres
7. Kaieteur Falls, Guyana
Kaieteur National Park is the home of Kaieteur Falls – a waterfall on the Potaro River – located in central Essequibo Territory, Guyana. The falls provide you with a glimpse of mother nature’s beauty in its truest form.
8. Golden Falls, Iceland
This two-step water fall is named Golden Falls because it turns completely golden in sunlight, because of its glacial content.
Height: The two-step falls have a height of 11 metres and 21 metres, respectively.
9. Sutherland Falls, New Zealand
This waterfall is named after Donald Sutherland – a prospector who discovered this fall. It has three cascades and that is what makes it so beautiful.
Height: It plunges down from a height of 580 metres.
